TOURISM DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Description

The successful applicant will promote all aspects of tourism on Pelee Island and will review and update all existing tourism marketing materials as required. In addition, the successful applicant may be asked to perform the following or similar tasks: research and document online references of Pelee Island and area, and prepare an assessment/analysis of Pelee Island’s existing online profile; identify opportunities to improve and expand upon existing/published information; develop appropriate marketing and promotion materials; prepare and publish social media updates to approved accounts weekly; prepare weekly reports for supervisor; liaise with Administrative staff and the Tourism, Hunting, Fishing and Economic Development Committee; and work with internal and external stakeholders to promote festivals, events and tourism opportunities for Pelee Island.

The Tourism Development Officer will contribute to achieving tourism objectives, develop Pelee as a tourism destination and increase tourism industry stakeholder engagement. Guided by the goals and objectives of the Township of Pelee Destination Development Plan, this position will support the Community Vision that:

“Pelee Island is an authentic, natural tourism destination with a resident and visitor community committed to sustainable relationships between people and the Island.”

This is a seasonal position made possible by Canada Summer Jobs. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the
Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Required Skills & Knowledge

Applicants should have the skills and a working knowledge of the following:

  • Outgoing and energetic personality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Digital skills with knowledge and experience using social media in a professional setting
  • Able to Balance workloads effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of website and app development an asset
  • Experience in marketing and advertising related fields an asset
