The 2022 Municipal Election is Monday October 24
Municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October. Municipal government’s main priority is to provide public services that meet the important needs of their residents. Municipal governments raise a large portion of their money to finance these services through property taxes paid by residents and businesses in the municipality, with additional funding from user fees and non-tax revenue.
These municipal governments are governed by municipal councils. The main job of a municipal council is to make important decisions about municipal financing and services. In Ontario, each lower or single tier municipal council – like the Township of Pelee – is headed by a mayor, and members of council are referred to as councillors.
When it comes time for a municipal election, it is important to think about all the services your municipal government is responsible for providing, including but not limited to roads, policing, water, parks and recreation, drainage, and other environmental services. Learn who in your community best represents your position on the issues that mean the most to you.
