2022-2026 Term of Committees
Committees are established to assist Council and provide opportunities for community involvement and participation. Committees provide Council with recommendations while operating within their mandates, the township’s procedural by-law, and the Municipal Act, 2001. Citizen representatives are appointed in a voluntary capacity to bring local knowledge, expertise and experience for specific areas of civic concern.

Committee Role
Help the Township of Pelee and Council identify and break down barriers for people with disabilities in the community.
Responsibilities
As per section 29 (4) of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the committee shall,
(a) advise the council about the requirements and implementation of accessibility standards and the preparation of accessibility reports and such other matters for which the council may seek its advice under subsection (5).
(b) review in a timely manner the site plans and drawings described in section 41 of the Planning Act that the committee selects; and
(c) perform all other functions that are specified in the regulations. 2005, c. 11, s. 29 (4).

Committee Role
An independent body granted authority by the province of Ontario to provide relief from the provisions of the Township’s Zoning By-Laws and empowered to grant consent on the severance of lots.
Responsibilities
Preside over hearings as required under the Township of Pelee Zoning By-Law and Planning Act. Render decisions in a timely manner in accordance with all prescribed legislation.
Composition:
- All Members of Council and Senior of Administration
An advisory committee comprised of all Members of Council that directly reports, and makes recommendations, to Council. The Chair may relax the procedural rules to allow for the efficient and effective dispatch of business by the Committee and to facilitate informal discussion as between the public, Staff and the Members, including but not limited to relaxing the rules related to delegation speaking time and registration.

Committee Role
To support Council and Administration in executing directives as outlined in the 2021 Destination Development and Implementation Plan with a focus on visitor education, infrastructure to support visitors, and promotion of safe enjoyment of the island.
Responsibilities
Provide general guidance and lend expertise to specified actionable items as provided for in the Destination Development Plan and other emergent matters as needed. Champion visitor experience to Pelee Island and represent Pelee Islands best interest in all matters.

Committee Role
A focus on review and assessment of drainage works identified to the Committee through deferral from Council.
Responsibilities
Provide general guidance and lend expertise to Council and Administration on items related to drainage works. Proactively confer with Drainage Superintendent to deliver concise recommendations to Council that adhere to prescribed drainage legislation including but not limited to the Drainage Act.

Committee Role
To support Council and Administration in identifying alternate funding opportunities and completing successful grant applications.
Responsibilities
Work alongside the Treasurer to provide general guidance and lend expertise to specified funding asks; review and give input on draft documents; champion the process; and act in the best interest of the municipality.

Committee Role
To support and advance responsible hunting and fishing activities as a major economic driver of shoulder season tourism on Pelee Island. Provide expertise and guidance on matters related to hunting and fishing that are deferred to the committee by Council.
Responsibilities
Provide recommendations and support as required to improve visitor and resident experience relating to hunting and fishing. Champion Pelee Island as a hunting and fishing destination, while acting in the best interest of the Township of Pelee – priority may be given to the annual Pelee Island Pheasant Hunt during committee meetings as the main focus of discussion. Recommendations are to be consistent with applicable acts and regulations including but not limited to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and regulations
