Who can Vote in the 2026 Municipal Election?
You are eligible to vote in the Township of Pelee election for municipal council if you meet all of the following requirements:
- you are a Canadian citizen;
- you are aged 18 or older; and
- you qualify to vote in the Township of Pelee.
There are three ways that you can qualify to vote in the Township of Pelee:
- As a resident elector if you live in the Township of Pelee. You may own, rent, live in shared accommodation where you do not pay rent or live in the Township of Pelee, but do not have a fixed address.
- As a non-resident elector if you own or rent property in the Township of Pelee, but it’s not the municipality where you live. While you can be a resident elector in only one municipality (with the exception of students), you can be a non-resident elector in any other municipality (or municipalities) where you own or rent property.
- As the spouse of a non-resident elector if your spouse owns or rents property in the Township of Pelee and it is not where you live.
Neither you nor your spouse qualify as a non-resident elector if you do not personally own or rent the property in the Township of Pelee. For example, if the property is owned by your business or your cottage is owned by a trust, you do not qualify as a non-resident elector.
If you are not certain whether you qualify as a non-resident elector, please contact the Municipal Office.
Am I on the Voters’ List?
Ensure you’re on the List as soon as possible. Stop by the Municipal Office during regular business hours, give us a call or send an email to elections@pelee.ca.
During the period that begins on September 1, 2026, and ends at the close of Election Day, a person may make an application to the Clerk to be added to or amend the Voters’ List. Eligible voters who are not on the Voters’ List will be able to be added to the list by filling out an Application to Amend Voters’ List form (available at the Municipal Office or by sending an email to elections@pelee.ca) and providing proof of identity and residence.
Vote by Mail
Voting for the Township of Pelee Municipal Election takes place using Vote by Mail.
Voter Kits are mailed to registered Electors end of September and must be returned to the Municipal Office by mail or in person by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, October 26, 2026.
Electors who are added to the Voters’ List after Voter Kits are mailed, are required to pick up their Voter Kit directly from the Municipal Office before 8:00 p.m. on October 26, 2026.
A Ballot Return Station will be established at the Municipal Office for those Voters who prefer to deliver their completed Ballots directly into the care of the Clerk, rather than forwarding their Ballots by mail. The Ballot Return Station will be accessible during regular business hours and 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day (October 26).
The final recommended day for delivery of the return envelope to Canada Post mail is Thursday October 15, 2026, to ensure delivery to the Municipal Office prior to the Close of Voting on Monday October 26 at 8:00 p.m.
Return envelopes must reach the Municipal Office/Ballot Return Station by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day or they will not be counted.
Voters Kit
Voters Kits are distributed by mail or hand delivered at the Municipal Office as required, to all eligible Voters on the Voters’ List, which will include:
- Voting Instruction Sheet
- Composite Ballot
- Ballot Secrecy Envelope
- Return Envelope
- Voter Declaration Form
Upon receipt of the voters kit, eligible Voters shall complete the ballot, place it in the ballot secrecy envelope and seal the envelope. Voters shall complete the voter declaration form and place this form and the sealed ballot secrecy envelope in the return envelope. Voters may mail the return envelope to the municipality or deliver it to the Ballot Return Station (Municipal Office). These instructions will be contained in the voters kit.
