Neck sore from looking up during the Pelee Island Bird Festival?
Take a break by helping look down to scan the forest floor for salamanders. Join us at the stunning Stone Road Alvar Nature Reserve to check salamander boards and record species. Cover boards were laid down last fall, and we’re excited to see who’s made a home there since.
You’ll also enjoy a guided hike through the alvar habitat on the reserve – a landscape like no other in Ontario. Here you’ll see some species that can’t be found anywhere else in the province, and an oak savannah with trees over 100 years old. The alvar is teeming with interesting wildlife, and if you’re lucky you might spot a foxsnake, yellow-breasted chat, or blue-spotted salamander.
