Marriage Solemnizations

GETTING MARRIED ON PELEE?

Pelee Island offers a beautiful setting for a wedding ceremony.

Civil Marriage Solemnization Services

The Township of Pelee is pleased to announce that Civil Marriage Solemnization Service is available on Pelee Island. This service provides an alternate to the Justice of the Peace, for applicants who prefer a Marriage Service without religious connotation.

Township of Pelee, Kathy Long, is available to officiate services.

To have your service on Pelee, you will require a valid Ontario Marriage License, issued within three (3) months of the proposed date of marriage and no later than a week prior – available at the Township of Pelee Municipal Office, 1045 West Shore Road – two IDs are required (a valid driver’s license, birth certificate and/or passport).  The cost of processing a license is $135.00.

A Pre-Service Interview, with both applicants in attendance, shall occur with the Officiant at the Municipal Office prior to the Solemnization Service. This meeting is mandatory and will be about one (1) hour in length. During this meeting, arrangements for the service will be reviewed and specific details will be agreed upon.

A minimum of five (5) persons must be in attendance at the Civil Marriage Solemnization Service, the Officiant, the two (2) applicants to be married, plus two (2) witnesses. It is recommended that witnesses are at least sixteen (16) years of age. If an Interpreter is required, it is the responsibility of the applicants to provide one. The Interpreter is required to attend the Pre-Service Interview and to complete a document at the service. If either applicant is sixteen (16) or seventeen (17) years of age, parental consent is required.

At the discretion of the Officiant, the Pre-Service Interview or the Service may not proceed under certain circumstances.

The Fee for the Solemnization Service is $275.00. Fees are to be paid to the Township of Pelee by cash, certified cheque or money order at Pre-Service Interview or on the date of the service.
