Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program
The Essex Region Conservation Authority received $140,000 under the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program to assist local landowners who take action to protect drinking water sources such as:
- Upgrading or decommissioning wells and septic systems
- Installing runoff and erosion control measures
- Implementing agricultural best management practices
- Conducting pollution prevention reviews.
This program, funded by the province under the Clean Water Act, assists property owners, farmers, and small businesses who are near municipal drinking water intakes to protect municipal drinking water sources.
Protecting source water is the first line of defence in Ontario's approach to safeguarding drinking water.
"We are pleased the Government of Ontario continues to recognize the importance of local stewardship in protecting our sources of drinking water. This funding will help landowners take action on their property to protect our shared drinking water resources," said Anthony Leardi, Chair, Essex Region Conservation Authority, and Essex Region Source Protection Authority.
